Climatic Wind Tunnel
The Climatic Wind Tunnel was built in 2009 as the third tunnel of the Wind Tunnel Centre. The Climatic Wind Tunnel allows for measurements under extreme climatic conditions. As wind energy development advances further, even remote sites with extreme weather conditions become increasingly attractive for planning new farms.
Thus, site specific optimization of wind turbines and sensors becomes mandatory. Based on measurements in our climatic wind tunnel we can determine how icing affects anemometers and other sensors – and the quality of the resulting measurements.
